Dallas Builders

Enthusiasts packed the Dallas edition of the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show and were treated to an excellent variety of custom sleds. The Ultimate Builder is known for diversity and in Dallas it was on display. And even though the Cowboys were playing at the same time of the awards ceremony on Sunday, it was SRO during the awards.

FreeStyle – 2017 J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder in Dallas

Kyle Shorey of Speed Foundry rolled in My Pal, a cool 1979 Harley-Davidson FX sled. It features a metal flake cream paint job with brass accents throughout. Kyle built the handlebars, custom grips, footboards, handshift shift gate, dash and exhaust. The bike is truly an impressive sled.

When Cowboy Kyle Shorey got called up on stage he did a forward flip to make a grand entrance for his accolades.

He will be heading to Chicago for the US Championship and to compete for the KING of the Builders award and a good chunk of the $50,000 in cash and prizes.

J&P Cycles hosted a reception for the builders at Rick Fairless’ Strokers Ice House. Rick did a tour and we all enjoyed seeing his shop and hearing the history of his custom business. Roy Martin of Roy’s Toys brought 2 boxes of Nachos Borrachos from Colorado and they were so good, they were named Chip Crack.

Diversity was the word that described the show. Bryan Stalcup ran his custom “convertible” bike into the show and excited the fans by changing the bike from a cruiser to a sportbike with a touch of a button. A hydraulic ram underneath the seat moves the front and rear of the bike by 8 inches. And a hydraulic motor built into the rear wheel provides the power to the clear Lexan wheels. His bike took the People’s Choice Award and the Ingenuity Award. For his efforts he came away with a Bell Custom 500 lid and a gift certificate from J&P Cycles for $100.
