Every time a wheel turns in anger, the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team takes a Wally and wins a race at the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.
The Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team remains undefeated as racer Eddie Krawiec won the Pro Stock Motorcycle final at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta on his Harley-Davidson® V-Rod® motorcycle, his second win of the season and the team’s third in a row.
After three of 16 Pro Stock Motorcycle events on the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Krawiec leads the class with 353 points. Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines holds down second place with 233 points. Hines rode his Harley-Davidson V-Rod to a win at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, N.C. on April 24.
The race bike is a spiritual representative of the production VRSC or V-Rod. Krawiec and Hines race on competition motorcycles inspired by the sleek street style of the Night Rod Special. The V-Rod was developed to compete against Japanese and American muscle bikes. And on the NHRA strip, it certainly competing well against the Suzuki. The V-Rod features the Revolution engine, developed jointly with Porsche that, for the first time used overhead cams and liquid cooling.
“The weather cooled down and we had great V-Rod conditions on Sunday,” said Krawiec, who has now won 33 times in final-round appearances. “We had a good tune-up since Saturday, so we were focused on making chassis adjustments to keep the bike running as straight as possible down the track. This class is so tight right now making a clean run is essential to winning.”
Krawiec was the number-two qualifier for the Atlanta race with a best elapsed time of 6.880 seconds on Saturday. He had his best run of the weekend in the final, a 6.824-second blast that out-paced the 6.851 effort of runner-up Jerry Savoie. With career win No. 33, Krawiec is now tied with the late John Myers, who won three championships.
Krawiec took home an exclusive NHRA Wally® Trophy awarded to winners in each category during winner’s circle activities. He now has two from the 2016 season.
The Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines drag racing team returns to action June 10-12 at the 47thannual NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.
