It’s always a surprise at the kick off of the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder series in SOCAL because of the diversity of the builders at the Long Beach show. And this year it was even more so. Builders came from as far as Dallas, TX to show off their creation.
Multiple ground up builds, Triumphs, Indians, Softails, DYNAS, Baggers were all under the spot light and were competing at the friendly confines at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Winner – #175 – Dale Crawford of Motone named Mahakala, a 2006 Triumph Hardtail Bobber
Runner-up – #150 – Dale Crawford of Motone named Grasshopper, a 2009 Triumph Bonneville Café Racer
MODIFIED RETRO
Winner – #425 – Tom Day, 1976 Triumph built by David Bird – Hand built from the ground up, custom paint with leaf pattern, hand made oil bag and Cole Foster fuel tank
Runner-up – #1275 Taber Nash – KOKO, Nash Motorcycle Company – KOKO is an extreme build that includes an open primary, a gas thank that includes gas and oil, custom tins and springer frontend
MOD HARLEY
Winner – #100 Doug Ide of Ide Innovations with Rising Sun, a 2009 Roadking – The paint is just fantastic, Candy apple red with marblizer, Frame raked for the 1-off 30” wheel, handbuilt headlight nacelle, sliding saddlebag lids – front and rear air ride
Runner-up – #1250 – Samual Kao of JSK Moto Co. with Project Cobalt Storm, a 1997 XL1200 Sportster – The team from JSK Moto took a minimalistic approach. Paint by Air Runner Custom Paint

The J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show is the world’s largest motorcycle builder competition, featuring more than 350 motorcycles and $100,000 in cash and prizes across the IMS Tour.
Professional and amateur builders compete at their local IMS for cash, prizes, recognition and a chance to move-on to the Championship Round in Chicago – where $70,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs!
