2016 Dallas Ultimate Builder Results By J&P Cycles

The 2016 J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show showcased 48 unique custom bikes in four categories including FreeStyle, MOD Harley, MOD Custom and MOD Retro.

The Ultimate Builder is a show within the International Motorcycle Show series. You will see enthusiasts from all over Texas stop in to take a look around. Rick Fairless of Strokers and reality TV fame was walking the floor and checking out the action as well as world champion motorcycle racer Kevin Schwantz.

Gerald Van Meter of B&B Cycles received a Bell Helmet for the People’s Choice award. And the SHO DOG award goes to the guy or gal that works the hardest representing their company. For Dallas The Leatherworks’ Solo Bag was awarded to Mike Kordash as he was representing his company, MikesFrameWorks.com, and the work they do engraving and straightening antique frames.

The FreeStyle Class – FreeStyle is an open class for any build with a motorcycle based drive train. It includes any 2 or 3 wheel motorcycle as defined by the DMV. Timothy Scates built a bike for his daughter Amy and named it Amy’s Twisted Bobber. The twisted down tube came from steel forged in the 1800’s. Tim hand built the handlebars, gas tank, frame and rear fender. The 74ci Harley engine runs split rocker boxes, SU Carb and magneto.

Tim took home a check for $2,000 and an Anvil Ring from Speakeasy Original.

MOD HARELY Class – The MOD Harley class allows for motorcycles with Harley cases and a Harley frame cradle. Art Steele jumped up onstage for the 2nd time at the awards ceremony for his bike named Never Enough. The 2013 Road King features a C.M.P. Turbo, 32” 3D wheel and a power train coated in cerakote. The paint was provided by Steel Vision. Art Steele takes home check for $1,000.

MOD Custom Class – The MOD Custom class requires an OEM engine and frame. Neck may be cut to rake or stretch frame. Hard tail sections, stretched swing arms and wide tire kits are acceptable. Carlos Sanchez of SLAB Cycles took the win with his Yamaha Roadster and features 26”inch wheel, custom springer and stainless bars. Carlos built a super sanitary sled. Mr. Sanchez takes home a check for $750.

2 # 500 – AJ Harris – 2013 Royal Enfield named The Wild Hare

The MOD Retro Class – This class is for bikes older than 1984. It allows for any drivetrain and frame configuration. Sofi Tsingos rolled 4 bikes into the MOD Retro class and rolled out with 1st place and a $750 check for her 1977 Honda CB550 named Frank. She modified the rear seat loop with integrated tail light. The bike features a GSXR frontend, Benelli tank, GSXR calipers and nickel plated frame.

Jeff Holt, Brand Director of Hot Bike and Street Chopper Magazines provides two Editor’s Choice Awards. He could not be in attendance so we used a cardboard cut-out for the photo op. He selected Kyle Shorey of Speed Foundry for the Street Chopper and Art Steel of All Star Baggers received the Hot Bike award.
